Rei begins and ends every session. Respect for the dojo, the coach and the opponent is not optional — it is the entry requirement.
The club
Founded in Sofia in 2000. In twenty-five years Tsanev Karate Club has become the number one club in Bulgarian karate.
Tsanev Karate Club was founded in Sofia in 2000. Over twenty-five years in Bulgarian karate it has established itself as the number one club in the country.
For the last fifteen years the club has stood first in the ranking of the Bulgarian National Karate Federation by medals won, and it supplies a large part of the national team with the most successful young karateka in the country.
The club works in Shotokan — one of the most widely practised styles in the world, built on precise technique, solid stances and long, patient work on the basics. Every group follows the same technical curriculum, so moving from the children’s group into the competitive one is the next step rather than a fresh start.
Competitive work follows the rules of the World Karate Federation, in both disciplines — kata and kumite. Preparation for a tournament brings together technique, tactics and conditioning, and the coaching is individual: we work on the strengths and the weaknesses each athlete actually brings onto the tatami.
What the Bulgarian press has written about those results is collected on the Media page.
The club promotes the sport in Bulgaria by organising events with international participation, and keeps widening its work so that more people train. Today we run sessions in seven halls across Sofia — for children from the age of three, for beginners, for competitors and for adults.
03 Principles
Rei begins and ends every session. Respect for the dojo, the coach and the opponent is not optional — it is the entry requirement.
How an athlete carries a win and how they carry a loss counts for as much as the score. We ask for the same standard on the tatami and off it.
World, European and Balkan titles are not an accident. They are the result of a method that has kept this club first in Bulgaria for fifteen years running.
Attendance, punctuality and a clean karate suit. Technique follows habit, and habit is built long before the first competition.
04 Coaches
Proven specialists with competitive records behind them, led by vice-world and vice-European champion Nikolay Tsanev.
